Lady Bulldogs Make Short Work of NCCU
January 26, 2009 | Women's Tennis
The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team won its first match of the
2009 season by defeating the North Carolina Central Eagles 7-0 at
the Cone-Kenfield Indoor Tennis Facility on the campus of North
Carolina.
The Lady Netters lost an earlier match against the Tarheels of
North Carolina, but rebounded nicely for their first win of the
spring season.
Gardner-Webb started with an early 1-0 lead after the Bulldogs' No.
2 and No. 3 doubles teams won 8-0, 8-0. From there, the Lady
Bulldogs proceeded to sweep the singles competition, all six
winning in straight sets over their Eagle opponents. Sophomore
Rita Gouveia, along with Kasey Ellis and Tavenner Black, didn't
drop a single point in route to several 6-0, 6-0 victories at the
four through sixth slots.
GWU will have a couple of weeks off before returning to action on
Feb. 7 at Georgia Southern.
