Wrestling Drops 30-13 Decision at Campbell

The Gardner-Webb wrestling team was unable to overcome an early deficit against Campbell, falling 30-13 at the John W. Pope, Jr. Convocation Center Tuesday night. Austin Reece, Alex Piasecki, and Dustin Porter were all able to pick up victories against the Camels.
The Bulldogs fell behind early as Campbell was able to win the first three matches of the evening. GWU's Courtney Roberts lost a close decision, 7-6, in the opening match, followed closely by two falls by the Camels.
Sophomore Austin Reece broke up the Camels' streak of victories with a 14-5 major decision win at 149 lbs. By snapping Campbell's streak, he also snapped his own six-match losing streak dating back to the Bulldog Duals against Davidson.
After another streak of wins by the Camels, red-shirt sophomore Alex Piasecki pinned Campbell's Kyle Higgins at the 4:23 mark to narrow the gap to 27-10.
The final win by the Bulldogs came in the heavyweight match, as No.10 Dustin Porter defeated Khiry Reid by an 8-1 decision. In the end, the Camels held the upper hand and defeated the Bulldogs 30-13.
The wrestling team will be back in action this Saturday (Jan. 31) to host the Bulldog Duals beginning at 9 am. Appalachian State, Duke, and Eastern Michigan are the three teams that Gardner-Webb will be hosting.
