
Lady Bulldogs Power Past Patriots 2-0 Wednesday Evening

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.- In what was the final non-conference matchup for the Gardner-Webb women's soccer team, the Lady Bulldogs were able to earn their sixth win of the season by defeating the Francis Marion Patriots by a score of 2-0 Wednesday evening at Greene-Harbison Field.
Gardner-Webb (6-5-0) got on the attack early when junior Sarah Keyser was able to score in the 17th minute when she was able to put a header past the goalkeeper off of a free kick by sophomore Megan Tremblay. The goal was Keyser's second on the season and was Tremblay's third assist thus far.
The Lady Bulldogs were able to strike again in the 67th minute when sophomore Stephanie Benshoof was able to find the back of the net for her first goal of the season when she drilled a free kick from 35 yards out that was just over the reach of Patriot sophomore goalkeeper Casey Durham.
Francis Marion (1-11-1) had a few attempts to score throughout the game, but was unable to find success, with the Lady Bulldogs dominating the match with the shots on goal margin being six to one.
The Lady Bulldogs are set to open up Big South Conference play this weekend as they host the Winthrop Eagles in what will be a double-header for the men's and women's soccer programs for both schools. The men's teams will square off at 5:00 PM and the women's teams will face off at approximately 7:00 PM. The matches will take place at Greene-Harbison Field.
