BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.- In a clear, calm, evening in Boiling Springs, the Gardner-Webb women's soccer team defeated the High Point Panthers by a score of 1-0 on a goal by sophomore Megan Reimer Friday evening at Greene-Harbison Field.
In what was a very evenly matched game, Reimer was able to break free past two defenders and blast a shot past senior goalkeeper Marisa Abbott from about 25 yards away in the 59th minute to give the Lady Bulldogs the victory. It was the eighth goal of the season for the Hamilton, Ohio native.
Sophomore Chelsea Hearne made her first start of the season in goal for the Lady Bulldogs, and was effective throughout the match. She was able to shut out the High Point offense, recording six saves on the evening.
Gardner-Webb improves to a 8-5-0 record on the season and 2-0-0 in Big South play, while the Panthers fall to 2-12-0 and 1-2-0 in conference play.
The Lady Bulldogs return to action this Sunday afternoon as they host the Liberty Flames, who were the Big South regular-season champions in 2008. The match is scheduled to take place at 2:00 PM at Greene-Harbison Field.
