GWU Women's Soccer Falls To Liberty 1-0 Sunday Afternoon

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.- The Gardner-Webb women's soccer team fought hard Sunday afternoon, yet the squad fell to the Liberty Flames by a score of 1-0 at Greene-Harbison Field.
The two teams were evenly matched throughout the contest, yet Liberty (6-6-1) was able to take advantage of a misplayed ball early in the second half to allow sophomore Aimee Luurtsema to score when she was able to put a shot over the head of Gardner-Webb sophomore goalkeeper Chelsea Hearne to score the lone goal.
Gardner-Webb (8-6-0) had a few opportunities to score throughout the match, yet were unable to find the back of the net. Sophomores Stephanie Benshoof and Paige Reagan, as well as freshmen Taylor Napoli and Jane Giesler each had shots on goal. The loss drops the team to a 2-1-0 record in Big South Conference play, while Liberty improves its conference record to 3-0-1.
The next contest for the Lady Bulldogs will be on Friday, October 16th as the team travels to Lexington, Va. to take on VMI. The match is scheduled to take place at 4:00 PM.
