
Gardner-Webb Men's Tennis Has Impressive Performance at Davidson/Jim Causey Invitational This Past Weekend

DAVIDSON, N.C.- This past weekend, the Gardner-Webb men's tennis team participated in the Davidson/Jim Causey Invitational at Davidson College. Senior Evgeny Slesarev had an outstanding weekend, going 3-0 in singles play, and 2-1 in doubles play with partner senior Rafael Altmayer.
The Krasnoyarsk, Russia native defeated Sebastian Fauchet of Richmond (8-5), Eric Noble of Davidson (6-2, 6-3), and Trent Constance of Appalachian State (2-6, 6-4, 10-2). The duo of Slesarev and Altmayer, who were part of the 2009 Big South All-Conference team for doubles, defeated the team of William Minter and Fauchet of Richmond (8-3), and Peter Jacobs and Constance of Appalachian State (8-7(4)), but fell to the team of Sam Burns and Noble from Davidson (7-8).
Two freshmen members of the squad also found success this weekend in singles play, as Jeremie Tardif had his first collegiate victory, defeating Andrew McKinnon of Appalachian State (6-3, 6-4), and Matt Herrock defeated Britton Webb of Appalachian State (7-6(2), 7-6(4)).
The doubles team of junior Andrew Veeder and freshman William Kenny defeated the team of Justin Baker and A.J. Nelson of Richmond (8-7(5)).
This upcoming weekend, Slesarev, Altmayer, and freshman Roman Piftor will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C., to participate in the ITA Carolina Regionals.
