
Gardner-Webb Swimming Falls To East Carolina Friday Afternoon

BOILING SPRINGS, NC- This Friday afternoon, the Gardner-Webb men's and women's swim teams returned to the pool for the first home meet of the 2009-10 season against the East Carolina Pirates. In what was an exciting meet, the Pirates women were victorious by a score of 117-88, and the Pirate men were victorious by a 108-97 score.
Leading the way for the GWU women's swim team were freshman Kim Zachensky and junior Rachel Warkentin, who each won two events. Both Zachensky and Warkentin were victorious in the 200 yard medley relay, along with junior Sarah Steadman and senior Corey Hughey with a time of 1:47. 47. Zachensky also was victorious in the 100 yard breastroke, timing in at 1:04.57, and Warkentin also won the 100 yard butterfly event, with a time of 58.04.
The GWU men's swim team was lead by junior Steven Caudill, who was victorious in the 200 yard IM with a time of 1:59.53, and the 100 yard butterfly, timing in at 52.11.
Both swim teams turn around quickly to face Florida A&M and Campbell Saturday afternoon at the Gardner-Webb Aquatics Center. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM.
