Lady Bulldogs Fall To Radford In Double Overtime 1-0 Sunday Afternoon

RADFORD, VA- In what was a cold, windy day at Cupp Stadium, the Gardner-Webb women's soccer team fell to the Radford Highlanders when Radford senior Justine Dugger was able to score the golden goal in the second overtime period.
The goal came in the 106th minute when Duggar took a free kick for Radford just outside of the penalty box, and Duggar was able to put the ball in the top near side corner of the goal.
Sophomore Samantha Rupert had a great game in goal, earning 10 saves throughout the match, including a brilliant save in the 73th minute when Highlander senior Caitlyn Roan launched a shot from 18 yards out, but Rupert made a great leaping save to send the ball over the crossbar, preventing the goal.
Gardner-Webb had several attempts to score, recording six shots on goal, but were unable to get the ball past Radford's sophomore goalkeeper Lisa Lubke. Junior Sarah Keyser recorded two shots on goal, including a shot in the 18th minute off of a corner kick by sophomore Megan Tremblay, yet Lubke was able to make the diving save for Radford. Tremblay also had a great chance of scoring in the 76th minute, blasting a shot from just inside the box, yet it just sailed over the crossbar.
The loss puts Gardner-Webb's record at 9-7-0 and 3-2-0 in Big South Conference play, while Radford improves to 8-7-0 and 5-1-0 in league play.
The Lady Bulldogs return to action this week at they host conference foe Presbyterian on Friday, October 23rd. The match is set to take place at 7:00 PM at Greene-Harbison Field.
