
Bulldogs Dominate Meet Against Campbell and Florida A&M

BOILING SPRINGS, NC- Both Gardner-Webb's men's and women's swim teams faired well Saturday afternoon, as the women's team defeated Campbell by a 117-87 score and Florida A&M 165-21, and the men's team defeated Florida A&M by a 94-35 score.
For the women's team, Bulldog swimmers won six of the eleven events. The team of juniors Sarah Steadman and Stepheni Stadnik, and sophomores Veronica Case and Hillary Leonard won the 400 yard medley relay with a time of 4:10.30. Junior Rachel Glenn was victorious in the 1000 yard freestyle, timing in at 11:16.97. Freshman Michelle Palacio won the 400 yard IM with a time of 4:43.36. Senior Corey Hughey wom the 200 yard backstroke, timing in at 2:09.68. Freshman Kathleen Wilkinson was victorious in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:23.78, and freshman Kim Zachensky won the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:21.78.
Members of the men's swim team were the quickest to time in for each event the team competed in. Impressively, thirteen different members of the squad were victorious throughout the event. Leading the way for the Bulldogs was freshman Mitch Turner, who was quickest in three separate events. In the 50 yard freestyle, he timed in at 22.87, his time in the 500 yard freestyle was 4:57.70, and he was part of the team that won the 400 yard freestyle relay. Other members of the winning team were juniors Abram Miller, Travis Gibson, and Steven Caudill, who all timed in at 3:24.29.
The GWU swim teams will return to action on October 23rd as they travel to Wilmington, NC to face off against UNC-Wilmington.
