
Gardner-Webb Women's Swimming Falls To UNC Wilmington Friday Afternoon; Competes Against Catawba Saturday Afternoon

BOILING SPRINGS, NC- In what was a busy weekend for the Gardner-Webb women's swim team, competing Friday afternoon at UNC Wilmington, and then turning around to host Catawba Saturday afternoon, the Lady Bulldogs fell to UNC Wilmington by a score of 140-122, yet was successful against Catawba, winning 112-92.
At UNC Wilmington, the team of senior Corey Hughey, junior Rachel Warkentin, and freshmen Kim Zachensky and Elizabeth Charter were victorious in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:46.92. Both Hughey and Warkentin were victorious in three additional events. Hughey was victorious in the 100 yard backstroke, timing in at 58.16, the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.21, and the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:06.53. Warkentin placed first in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.01, the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:07.00, and the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:08.68. Zachensky won two additional events, winning the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.17 and the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:24.14
Against Catawba, Hughey led the team with two wins. Her time of 1:00.94 in the 100 yard butterfly was good enough for first place, and she was part of the winning team in the 200 yard freestyle relay, along with Charter, sophomore Jenna Voelkert, and junior Sarah Steadman, with a time of 1:39.66. Warkentin timed in the quickest in the 200 yard freestyle at 1:57.63, as did Zachensky in the 400 yard IM at 4:46.69.
The Lady Bulldogs will return to action on November 6th as they compete against Limestone in Gaffney, SC at 6:30 PM.
