
Gardner-Webb Women's Tennis Had Impressive Outing at 2009 Wilson/ITA Regional Championships This Past Weekend

WINSTON-SALEM, NC- The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team was represented this past weekend at the 2009 Wilson/ITA Regional Championships at Wake Forest University by sophomore Ioana Oprea and freshman Erica White.
Oprea had a great weekend, making it through the qualifying rounds by defeating Ali Gores of Davidson (6-1, 6-0) and Borislava Nikolova of Campbell (6-1, 2-6, 6-4). Once in the main draw, she fell to Gina Suarez-Malaguti of UNC-Chapel Hill (6-4, 6-2).
White defeated her first round opponent in the main draw, Kateryna Chorna of NC Central (6-1, 6-2). She faced Sanaz Marand of UNC-Chapel Hill, who was the tournament's number one seed, in the second round, but was defeated (6-3, 6-2).
The duo also competed in the doubles draw, but fell to the team of Giovanna Portioli and Sandra Herrera from Winthrop (8-4).
The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team will return to action on November 6th-8th as they compete in the Wofford Fall Invitational.
