
Scott and Witt Pace Bulldogs at the Charlotte Invitational

Charlotte, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's and men's cross country teams set a number of personal bests on Friday evening at the Charlotte Invitational led by Laura Scott and Colby Witt.
The Lady Bulldogs finished 10th overall in the team standings,
finishing with 320 points and ahead of schools such as
UNC-Asheville, Wofford, Radford and Charleston Southern.
Leading the way was junior Laura Scott, as she finished in
33rd-place with her time of 18:50.30 in the 5K race.
Fellow junior Diana Palka crossed the finished line with a time of
19:09.40, placing her in 55th-place overall, while senior Abby
Callahan and freshman Ariel Zimmerman finished 73rd and 74th with
times of 19:39.30 and 19:39.50, respectively.
Freshman Elisabeth Sawyer crossed the finish line with a time of
21:08.20, good enough for 146th-place, while sophomore Cherish
Richardson turned in a time of 21:27.80.
Rounding out the runners for the Lady Bulldogs was junior Lia
Hudak, who had a final time of 21:42.30, and freshman Holly Scott
who crossed the line with a time of 22:11.30.
On the men's side, the Bulldogs finished 16th overall, finishing
ahead of Radford, Limestone, Pfeiffer, Wofford and Coker College on
the day.
Freshman Colby Witt paced the Bulldogs in the 8K event, turning in
a personal best time of 26:27.00, placing him in 41st-place
overall.
Fellow freshman Josiah Stanton-Brooks crossed the finish line with
a time of 27:44.20, well enough for a 94th-place showing, while
sophomore Jason Wenzel finished 136th overall with his time of
28:59.30.
GWU sophomore Jacob Hoyle turned in a time of 29:30.30, while
junior Justin Cole and freshman Josh Padgett rounded out the
scoring for the Bulldogs with times of 31:38.60 and 37:50.30,
respectively.
The host of the event, the Charlotte 49ers took first-place in both
the women's and the men's meets, while Clemson took second-place in
both as well.
The Gardner-Webb cross country teams' will next compete on Friday,
October 16th, as the Bulldogs will participate in the Blue Ridge
Open hosted by Appalachian State in Boone, N.C.
