
Bulldogs Finish Eighth at the 2009 Big South Men's & Women's Cross Country Championships

High Point, N.C. - Both the women's and the men's cross country teams finished in eighth place at the 2009 Big South Men's & Women's Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning in High Point, N.C.
On the women's side, the Lady Bulldogs who recorded 225 points for the 5K event, was led by Diana Palka and Abby Callahan. Palka, who turned in a time of 20:58, finished in 43rd-place overall, while Callahan crossed the finish line with a time of 21:02 to place 46th overall.
On the heels of Callahan was junior Laura Scott, as she finished in 51st-place with a time of 21:24.
GWU's Lia Hudak crossed the finish line with a time of 21:48, good enough to place her in 57th overall, while Elisabeth Sawyer and Ariel Zimmerman finished in 59th and 60th, respectively, with times of 22:01 and 22:11.
Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Bulldogs on Saturday morning was Cherish Richardson and Holly Scott, who finished with times of 22:41 and 22:47, crossing the line in 64th and 65th-place, respectively.
Liberty posted 47 points, followed by VMI (66 points) and Coastal Carolina (76). In fourth-place was High Point with 86 points and Winthrop closed the top five 117 points. In sixth was UNC Asheville with 148 points and in seventh was Radford with 172 points. Gardner-Webb (225) and Charleston Southern (262) rounded out the list.
On the men's side, freshman Colby Witt paced the Bulldogs, taking 39th-place overall with a time of 28:07, while fellow freshman Josiah Stanton-Brooks finished in 45th-place with a time of 28:45.
Sophomore Nick Kelly crossed the finish line with a time of 29:12, well enough for a 51st-place finish, while Jason Wenzel finished in 54th-place with his time of 29:35.
Rounding out the scoring for the Bulldogs was Jacob Hoyle, who finished 71st with a time of 31:30, and Justin Cole, who crossed the finish line with a time of 33:24 and in 75th-place overall.
Liberty posted 33 points, followed by High Point (46 points) and Coastal Carolina (59). In fourth-place was Virginia Military Institute with 107 points and UNC Asheville closed the top five with 133 points. In sixth was Winthrop with 150 points and in seventh was Charleston Southern with 199 points. Gardner-Webb (225) and Radford (247) rounded out the list.
