GWU Women's Basketball To Open Up Season At Home Against Houston On Friday Night At 8 p.m.

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's basketball team will tip-off its 2009-10 season on Friday night, November 13th, at 8 p.m. as the Lady Bulldogs will host the University of Houston Cougars in Paul Porter Arena.
The Lady Bulldogs, who were selected to finish third overall in the
Big South Preseason Poll back in October, have a challenging slate
in 2009-10, starting with the season opener against Houston this
Friday night.
The Cougars return nine players, including four starters, from last
year's team that went 19-10 overall and 11-5 in Conference USA
play. The Cougars finished tied for second in Conference USA last
season and returns its top-four scorers from a year ago led by 6-0
forward Courtney Taylor who averaged a double-double of 16.6 points
and 10.1 rebounds per contest.
However, the Lady Bulldogs, who made a run in the 2009 Big South
Women's Basketball Championship Tournament last season advancing
all the way to the Championship game, return nine players from last
year's squad as well including preseason all-conference selections
Dominique Hudson and Margaret Roundtree.
With four starters and five key bench players returning from last
season and the addition of 6-6 junior transfer Sandra Vaitkute in
the middle, the Lady Bulldogs look more experienced and poised to
take a run at yet another championship, this time the 2009-10 Big
South Conference regular season title.
GWU will look to continue its recent success at home this season,
as last year the Lady Bulldogs posted an 11-2 record in Paul Porter
Arena, including winning nine straight home games throughout the
season.
The Lady Bulldogs first three games of the season will be at home,
as GWU will host Winston-Salem State at 6 p.m. on Monday, November
16th and then welcomes nearby Limestone College to Paul Porter
Arena on Thursday, November 19th, for a 7 p.m. showdown.
