
Lady Bulldogs Roll Past Winston-Salem State for 70-38 Win

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Lady Bulldogs held the Winston-Salem State Lady Rams to 12 points in the second half en route to rolling to a 70-38 home victory on Monday night in Paul Porter Arena.
The win is the Lady Bulldogs first of the year, moving them to 1-1
on the young season, while the Lady Rams fall to 0-2 on the
season.
Gardner-Webb shot 56.0 percent from the field in the first half and
followed up the first 20 minutes of play by shooting 52.2 percent
in the second half, finishing the contest by connecting on 26-of-48
shot attempts, 54.2 percent, for the contest.
The Lady Bulldogs fell behind 2-1 on a lay up by the Lady Rams'
Chloe Morse less than two minutes into the contest, only to answer
with an 11-0 run capped off by a Courtney Epps three-pointer,
putting the home team up by 10 points at 12-2.
Gardner-Webb never looked back, refusing to relinquish the lead for
the remainder of the contest.
The Lady Bulldogs finished out the strong first half on a 10-5 run,
highlighted by some great defensive play, putting the score at
36-26 at the halftime intermission.
In the second half, the Lady Bulldogs scored 18 points on 11
Winston-Salem State turnovers and used a 32-10 run in the first 13
minutes of play to run out to a huge 60-36 lead with 7:00 minutes
to play.
Gardner-Webb's defense held the Lady Rams to four made field goals
in the final 20 minutes of play, finishing the contest with its
largest lead of the night at 32 points.
The Lady Bulldogs' bench outscored the Lady Rams' bench 25-6, while
GWU outscored the Lady Rams 28-14 in the paint for the game.
Gardner-Webb had a total team effort for the game, as 10 different
players scored led by Margaret Roundtree's 10 points and six
rebounds. Juniors LaTroya Pope, Dominique Hudson, Monique Hudson
and Sandra Vaitkute all poured in nine points apiece, while fellow
junior Courtney Epps added eight points and three steals for the
game.
For the Lady Rams, Vontisha Woods had a team-high 13 points and
eight rebounds, while guard Rene Rector had eight points in 28
minutes of play.
Gardner-Webb will look to carry its momentum over to its next bout,
as the Lady Bulldogs will play host to the Limestone Lady Saints on
Thursday, November 19th, at 7 p.m. in Paul Porter Arena.
