Gardner-Webb To Host Limestone Thursday Night at 7 p.m. in Paul Porter Arena
November 18, 2009 | Women's Basketball
Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Lady Bulldogs will host its third straight home contest on Thursday night, as Gardner-Webb will host Limestone College at 7 p.m. in Paul Porter Arena.
Thursday night's contest is a battle between two schools that are
20 minutes apart, a back-yard battle so to speak, as GWU plays host
to Limestone at 7 p.m. This is the first match-up between these two
teams since GWU moved to NCAA Division I in 2000-01.
The Lady Saints of Limestone College are members of NCAA Division
II and the Conference Carolinas. Limestone, who finished 13-15
overall last season, has started its 2009-10 season at 1-0, picking
up an 82-76 win over Armstrong Atlantic State. Limestone has a
slew of newcomers, as the Lady Saints have eight new faces on its
roster. However, the Lady Saints also returned seven players from
last year's squad including the key returners Lauren Pace, Brittney
Miller and Whitney Todd. Todd led the Lady Saints with 18 points
in the Limestone win over Armstrong Atlantic State, while Pace led
the team with six assists. The Lady Saints like to shoot it from
long range, as Limestone was 10-of-25 from downtown in its season
opener, with Maria Young and Tia Williams both making three
three-pointers apiece.
In its last contest, a 70-38 win over Winston-Salem State,
Gardner-Webb had 10 different players score and held the Lady Rams
to only 26.7 percent shooting for the contest. Senior forward
Margaret Roundtree led the balanced offensive scoring attack with
10 points, while four other Lady Bulldogs poured in nine points
apiece. GWU capitalized on its size, scoring 28 points in the
paint compared to the Lady Rams 14, and also took advantage of its
defensive play, scoring 30 points off 23 WSSU turnovers.
All of the home Lady Bulldog games will be video streamed by the
Big South Network and can be viewed by going to www.bigsouthsports.com.
Every week throughout the 2009-10 women's basketball season, the
