
GWU's Wilcox, Rhyne and Moffitt Earn Big South All-Conference Honors

Charlotte, N.C. - Gardner-Webb's Laura Wilcox, Molly Rhyne and Evan Moffitt all received Big South All-Conference honors announced the League today, as Wilcox was named to the Second-Team All-Conference, Rhyne earned a spot on the All-Freshman Team and Moffitt was named to the All-Academic Team.
Wilcox, who was the Big South Conference Freshman of the Year last
season, led the Lady Bulldogs in the regular season with 356 kills
and an attack percentage of .330. She has totaled a team-high 59
blocks on the year and tallied 160 digs on the back row this
season. The sophomore was third on the team with 40 service aces
and scored a team-high 433 points on the season for the Lady
Bulldogs. Wilcox recorded a career-high 20 kills at Coastal
Carolina and posted a career-high attack percentage of .650 in the
win over Radford on October 23rd. Wilcox posted double-digit kills
in 21 matches this season.
Wilcox was also named to the Second-Team All-Conference last season
as a freshman.
Rhyne, who was named to the All-Freshman Team, came on strong
toward the end of the season. Rhyne was named the Big South
Conference Freshman of the Week on October 26th. The outside
hitter tied for the team led with 356 kills and was second on the
team with 398 points on the year. Rhyne finished the regular
season fifth on the team in digs with 257 and total blocks with
28. Rhyne played in all 126 sets for GWU as a freshman, recording
double-digit kills in 22 matches, a team-high. Rhyne recorded a
career-high 21 kills versus UNCA on November 3rd, the most by any
Lady Bulldogs in a single match this season.
Moffitt was named to the All-Academic Team. The sophomore, who
originally came to Gardner-Webb two years ago as a setter, was
moved to the middle blocker position in the preseason and learned
the position quickly, making an impact there for the Lady Bulldogs
all-season long. Moffitt was second on the team with 303 digs,
third with 42 total blocks, fourth with 39 service aces and fifth
on the team with 165 kills. Moffitt scored 228 points for the Lady
Bulldogs this season, the fourth most on the team. Moffitt, who
did not miss a match this season, has posted a cumulative grade
point average of 3.7812 while working toward her degree in
Chemistry and a minor in mathematics.
The Lady Bulldogs will take on the No. 2 seeded Liberty Lady Flames
tomorrow afternoon at 12 p.m. in the first round of the 2009 Big
South Volleyball Championship hosted by Radford University in
Radford, Va.
