
Vaitkute's Career High 19 Points Powers the Lady Bulldogs Past Limestone, 71-50

Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb redshirt-junior Sandra Vaitkute poured in a career-high 19 points and hauled in a game-high nine rebounds to power the Lady Bulldogs past Limestone 71-50 on Thursday night in Paul Porter Arena.
With the win the Lady Bulldogs move to 2-1 on the season, while
Limestone falls to 1-1 with the loss.
Despite 14 first half turnovers, the Lady Bulldogs shot 51.7
percent from the floor and held Limestone College to 25.0 percent
shooting to pull out to a 41-19 halftime lead.
GWU's Vaitkute recorded 11 points in the first 20 minutes of play,
shooting 5-of-8 from the floor, while senior Margaret Roundtree
added nine points and four assists to help the Lady Bulldogs run
ahead of the Lady Saints.
Gardner-Webb came out of the halftime break with the same intensity
as in the first 20 minutes of play, as the Lady Bulldogs outscored
Limestone 14-6 in the first four minutes of the second half to take
its largest lead of the game at 55-25.
The Lady Bulldogs pushed its lead out to as high as 32 points,
while the Lady Saints got to as close as 18 points at 61-43 with
7:41 to play.
Yet the Lady Bulldogs turned it up a notch, pushing its lead back
to 26 points at 69-43 with 4:57 remaining in the contest.
For the game, Gardner-Webb used its size and power to its
advantage, outscoring Limestone 48-14 in points in the paint, while
the Lady Bulldogs also used its speed to pour in 10 fast break
points.
Gardner-Webb also held the advantage at the charity stripe, as the
Lady Bulldogs were 13-of-17 for 76.5 percent, while Limestone was
2-of-9 for 22.2 percent.
Behind Vaitkute's 19 points and nine rebounds was junior guard
Dominique Hudson with 12 points, while Monique Hudson and Roundtree
had 11 points apiece. Freshman guard Brianna Dillard tied
Roundtree with a team-high four assists, while junior forward
LaTroya Pope swatted away a game-high three Limestone shot
attempts.
For Limestone, guard Stephanie Hayes had a team-high 11 points,
while Maria Young tallied 10 points of her own, going 2-of-4 from
behind the arc. Point guard Lauren Pace dished out a game-high
eight assists, while also picking up a game-high four steals.
Gardner-Webb will hit the road for the first time this season on
Sunday, November 22nd, as the Lady Bulldogs will take on North
Carolina Central in Durham, N.C. Tip-off is scheduled for 3
p.m.
