
Records Fall as Lady Bulldogs Compete In Georgia Tech Fall Invitational This Past Weekend

ATLANTA, GA- The Gardner-Webb women's swim team set several new team records, as well as CCSA conference records this past weekend while participating in the Georgia Tech Fall Invitational. The team faced tough competition in swimmers from Georgia Tech, Florida State, Clemson, North Carolina State, Florida, Florida Atlantic, and Florida International. The team placed in 6th place with 197.5 points, placing ahead of Florida Atlantic, and Florida International.
The women's swim team set seven new team records, with two times being good enough to set new Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) records. Freshman Kim Zachensky broke five team records, as well as two conference records. Her time of 1:03.29 in the 100 yard breaststroke, which was 2nd place in the event, set a new conference record, as well as her team's time of 1:43.85 in the 200 yard medley relay. Her 6th place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke, with a time of 2:19.49, set a new school record, as well as her split time of 28.79 in the 200 yard medley relay, and her split time of 1:02.02 in the 400 yard medley relay. Senior Corey Hughey set a team record with her 11th place finish in the 50 yard backstroke at 26.30 and freshman Elizabeth Charter set a team record in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 56.30, which was good enough for 9th place.
Twelve different Bulldog swimmers reached the finals at the invitationals. Zachensky finaled in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke, Hughey in the 50 yard freestyle and 100 and 200 yard backstroke, Charter in the 50 and 100 yard freestlye and 100 yard butterfly, junior Sarah Stokes in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke, freshman Michelle Palacio in the 200 yard breaststroke, freshman Liz VanHalsema in the 400 yard IM, junior Lizzy Ketterer in the 200, 500, and 1650 yard freestyle, freshman Katherine Glenn in the 1650 freestyle, junior Stepheni Stadnik in the 100 yard breaststroke, sophomore Lyndsey Roka in the 200 yard butterfly, junior Sarah Stedman in the 100 and 200 yard backstroke, and junior Rachel Warkentin in the 100 and 200 yard butterfly and 200 IM.
The Gardner-Webb women's swim team will return to action on January 15, 2010 as they travel to Statesboro, GA to face Georgia Southern, North Florida, and Florida Gulf Coast.
