
Lady Bulldogs to Play In Lancer Classic This Weekend in Farmville, Va.

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's basketball team will hit the road for its next two contests, as the Lady Bulldogs will take on both Morehead State and Texas-Pan American this weekend in the Lancer Classic hosted by Longwood University in Farmville, Va.
Gardner-Webb is 4-1 thus far this season and has won four straight games after dropping its season opener to the University of Houston. The Lady Bulldogs have done it with a total team effort, as Coach Reeves has four players that are averaging over 10 points per game thus far this season. Redshirt-junior Sandra Vaitkute has had a double-double in each of the last two games for GWU, while Margaret Roundtree has scored in double figures in four of the five Lady Bulldog games this season. Off the bench Monique Hudson has had the hot hand, as she is 10-of-19 on the season from behind the three-point line.
Morehead State is currently 3-2 overall and have won three straight
games heading into play on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles were
picked to win the Ohio Valley Conference this season, as they
received nine first-place votes in the preseason pole. Morehead
State is led by the OVC Preseason Player of the Year, Chynna
Bozeman, as the junior guard is averaging 15.6 points and 5.2
rebounds per contest. Bozeman is getting help this season from a
number of players including fellow preseason all-conference
selection Tiffany Hamilton and Ashar Harris. Hamilton is averaging
9.2 points per game and is shooting 40.7 percent from long range,
while Harris is hauling in 12.0 rebounds per game and shooting 41.2
percent from the floor, both team highs. The Eagles are quick
defensively, as they are averaging 8.2 steals per game and are
forcing its opponents to cough the ball up close to 18 times per
contest. As a team, the Eagles are averaging 9.8 three-pointers
per game.
The Lady Broncos of UTPA are 0-3 thus far this season and 0-1 at
neutral sites. The Lady Broncos returned only two starters from
last year's team that went 14-16 overall. Junior guard Rachel
Hester leads UTPA offensively, as she is the only Lady Bronco in
double figures in scoring, averaging 11.0 points per game.
Returning starter Rose Esther Jean is averaging 9.3 points and 6.3
rebounds per game, while junior 6-2 center Maria Ben Erlingsdottir
is averaging 9.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per outing. The Lady
Broncos are slow starters, as UTPA has been outscored 98-76 in the
first 20 minutes of play thus far this season. Defensively, the
Lady Broncos are allowing 80.7 points per game, as its opponents
are shooting 47.5 percent from the field.
Historically Gardner-Webb has not faired well against either
Morehead State or Texas-Pan American, as the Lady Bulldogs are 0-5
all-time versus its next two opponents.
Tip-off for both games this weekend is slated for 12 p.m. eastern
time.
