Gardner-Webb to Host the Wofford Terriers On Tuesday Night at 7 p.m.
November 30, 2009 | Women's Basketball
Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's basketball team will look to make it seven wins in a row on Tuesday night, as the Lady Bulldogs welcomes Wofford College to Paul Porter Arena for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
Gardner-Webb is coming off back-to-back wins at the Lancer Classic
in Farmville, Va. last weekend, and is currently on a six game win
streak. The Lady Bulldogs last and only loss came back on November
13th, to Houston in the season opener.
The Lady Bulldogs are 6-1 thus far this season, the program's best
start since going to NCAA Division I in 2000-01. Its current six
game-winning streak ties the longest in the program's division I
history, as the Lady Bulldogs last completed that feat in
2007-08.
Gardner-Webb has four players that are averaging double-digit
points, headlined by redshirt-junior Sandra Vaitkute's 11.7 points
per game.
In the Lady Bulldogs last win, a 74-57 blowout of Texas-Pan
American on Sunday afternoon, Coach Reeves' bench was vital, as the
GWU bench not only scored 32 points for the game, but also scored
the first 15 GWU points of the game to get the Lady Bulldogs
offense started.
The Wofford Terriers are 1-4 thus far this season and 0-4 on the
road. The Terriers are currently in the midst of a two-game losing
streak, having lost to both Western Carolina and Georgetown on the
road last week.
Wofford is led by junior guard Maddie Helms, as she is averaging
11.6 points per game and is shooting 46.2 percent from the
three-point arc. Fellow junior Mahagony Williams is averaging 10.4
points and a team-high 9.0 rebounds per game, while leading the
team in shooting at 67.6 percent from the floor.
Tuesday night's game will be the fifth straight year in which these two teams have squared off on the court with the advantage going to the Terriers.
Gardner-Webb is 0-4 against the Terriers since 2000-01 with two of those losses coming at Paul Porter Arena. Last season, Gardner-Webb suffered a 78-72 loss in Spartanburg, S.C.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Paul Porter Arena.
