GWU's Ivanovich and Hefferon Named to 2009 NSCAA All-South Atlantic Region Teams

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The postseason accolades continue for both redshirt-freshman Jovan Ivanovich and redshirt-senior Gerard Hefferon, as both Bulldogs were named to the 2009 National Soccer Coaches Association of American All-South Atlantic Region Teams this past week.
Ivanovich was named to the NSCAA All-South Atlantic Region
Second-Team, while Hefferon was named to the NSCAA All-South
Atlantic Region Third-Team. Both were First-Team Big South
All-Conference selections this season.
Ivanovich, who played in every game for the Bulldogs this season,
recorded one goal and two assists from the defender position.
Ivanovich's goal came in the Bulldogs 4-2 loss to Appalachian
State. Ivanovich's two assists came in the Bulldogs 3-2 win over
Jacksonville and the 2-2 tie against Winthrop. Ivanovich was key
in the Bulldogs three shutouts this season and helped GWU post
eight wins on the season thus far; the most GWU has had since
2006. Ivanovich was also named the Co-Big South Conference play of
the Week on September 29.
Hefferon led the Bulldogs with nine goals and 25 points on the
year. Hefferon also added seven assists, which was second on the
team. Hefferon tallied two game-winning goals, including the
game-winning goal in the 2-1 win over UNCA. Hefferon was named to
the College Soccer News National Team of the Week back in September
and was also named the Big South Conference player of the Week on
September 9th. Hefferon was third in the conference in points (25)
and in goals (9). Four of Hefferon's nine goals came in conference
play.
The National Soccer Coaches Association of America serves as the
recognized leader in naming All-America soccer players. The NSCAA
selects All-America teams at every level of play. Through its
annual sponsorship of the All-America teams, NSCAA provides coaches
the opportunity to help their players receive richly deserved
recognition while helping promote the growth of the sport.
