December 16, 2009 | Men's Basketball
DURHAM - Duke guard Jon Scheyer scored a career-high 36 points Tuesday night to lead 7th-ranked Duke to a 113-68 win over Gardner-Webb in a nationally-televised contest.
Scheyer made 11-of-13 shots, hit seven three-pointers and narrowly missed a triple-double with nine assists and eight rebounds in 36 minutes of action. Duke (8-1) shot 65.2 percent for the game and forced 23 turnovers by Gardner-Webb (3-5), which went more than six minutes without a field goal in the second half as the Blue Devils stretched an 18-point halftime lead.
Auryn MacMillan had 14 points, C.J. Hailey scored 11 and both Grayson Flittner and Jonathan Moore had 10 for the Runnin' Bulldogs, who dropped their fifth game in a row. GWU shot better than 40 percent for the game, but couldn't keep up with the taller, faster, Blue Devils.
Gardner-Webb will host James Madison on Thursday, December 17, at 7:00 pm ET in Paul Porter Arena. Duke will travel to face No. 15 Gonzaga this weekend in New York City.
