
A New Era Dawns, As the Lady Bulldogs Shoot Its Way Past Wofford for the 78-55 Win

Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb knocked down 10-of-19 shots from behind the three-point arc en route to defeating the Wofford College Terriers 78-55 in Paul Porter Arena on Tuesday night.
The win was the Lady Bulldogs first win over Wofford since 1989, as
the Terriers had won the last nine meetings against Gardner-Webb
and led the overall series 15-2.
Gardner-Webb extends its winning streak to seven, its largest
winning streak in its Division I era, and improves to 7-1 on the
season. Wofford falls to 1-5 on the year with the loss.
Junior guard Dominique Hudson made a free throw to give GWU the 1-0
lead at the 18:34 mark, a lead that the Lady Bulldogs would hold
for the entire game.
The first half belonged to the Lady Bulldogs Courtney Epps, as the
junior poured in 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting to pace the offensive
attack of Gardner-Webb in the first 20 minutes of play.
Along with Epps offensively, defensively the Lady Bulldogs held
Wofford to only seven field goals for the half, as the Terriers
shot 26.9 percent from the floor, and forced Wofford to cough up
the ball for a total of 13 first half turnovers, which lead to 16
points for the Lady Bulldogs and a 35-22 GWU halftime lead.
Gardner-Webb put the game away with a great start in the second
half, as the Lady Bulldogs, led by Monique Hudson's three
three-pointers, outscored Wofford 15-4 in the first five minutes of
the second half to pull out to its largest lead of the game at
50-28.
However, the Lady Bulldogs did not let up as Gardner-Webb protected
its home turf and pushed its lead out to 33 at 63-30 on a lay up by
Dominique Hudson.
Gardner-Webb was too much for the Terriers down the stretch, as the
closest the Terriers got was 23 points in the final minute of the
contest.
For the contest, Gardner-Webb outscored the Terriers 27-13 in
points off turnovers, yet the Terriers outscored the Lady Bulldogs
19-3 in second chance points.
Yet the Lady Bulldogs shot 48.3 percent from the floor, including
going 10-of-19 from long range (52.6 percent), while Wofford shot
33.9 percent from the field for the game.
For the third straight game, Epps led the Lady Bulldogs with 18
points, as she was 4-of-8 from down town. Monique Hudson also had
a game-high 18 points, as the junior was 4-of-5 from three-point
range with all four coming in the second half. Dominique Hudson
added 12 points, while Meranda Burnett dished out a team-high five
assists.
Forward Mahagony Williams led Wofford with 12 points, while Lindsay
Cowher had nine points of the bench.
The Lady Bulldogs will look to continue its winning streak this
Saturday afternoon, as Gardner-Webb will host the Lady Pirates of
East Carolina at 4:30 p.m. in Paul Porter Arena. The game will be
