
Lady Bulldogs Look to Make It Eight In A Row On Saturday Afternoon, as GWU Hosts East Carolina University at 4:30 p.m.

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's basketball team will look to continue its winning streak on Saturday afternoon, as the Lady Bulldogs will host the Lady Pirates of East Carolina at 4:30 p.m. in Paul Porter Arena.
The Lady Bulldogs are 7-1 thus far this season, the program's best
start since going to NCAA Division I in 2000-01. Its current seven
game-winning streak marks the longest in the program's Division I
history, with four of those wins coming at home.
Gardner-Webb has five players that are averaging double-digit
points, headlined by junior twins Dominique Hudson at 11.4 points
per game and Monique Hudson with 11.0 points per game.
In the Lady Bulldogs last win, a 78-55 blowout of Wofford College
on Tuesday night, Gardner-Webb was hot from downtown, as the Lady
Bulldogs hit 10-of-19 three-pointers in the game, while holding
Wofford to 33.9 percent shooting for the contest.
The Lady Pirates are a perfect 7-0 thus far this season with six of
those wins coming at home. East Carolina is 1-0 on the road with
that win coming at American University, a 70-65 win. The Lady
Pirates have won rather easily thus far this season, as five of its
seven wins have been by 10 points or more. East Carolina is
averaging 78.1 points per game, while holding its opponents to only
60.6 points per outing. From the floor, as a team the Lady Pirates
are shooting 50.4 percent and 37.2 percent from behind the
three-point line. The Lady Pirates also hold a slight advantage on
the boards over its opponents, as on average ECU pulls down 40.6
rebounds compared to its opponents 33.6 rebounds per game. The
Lady Pirates are prone to turn the ball over however, as the team
averages 21.1 turnovers per contest.
East Carolina, who received votes in the latest ESPN/USA Today
Top-25 Poll, is led by sophomore guard Ashley Clarke and junior
guard Allison Spivey. Clarke leads the team with 14.6 points per
game and has collected a team-high 45 assists on the season.
Spivey is averaging 12.0 points per game and is shooting 55.6
percent from long range, as she is 15-of-27 on the season.
Sophomore center Jean Best is averaging 6.0 points and 3.4 rebounds
per game, but will be important to the Lady Pirates offensive and
defensive attack as she stands at 6-5 in the paint for ECU.
The Gardner-Webb Lady Bulldogs host the Lady Pirates of East
Carolina for the first time on Saturday afternoon, despite having
faced off with them four times previously. East Carolina holds a
4-0 all-time overall record over the Lady Bulldogs, however, all
four games have been played in the Williams Arena at Minges
Coliseum in Greenville, N.C.. Last season, East Carolina defeated
the Lady Bulldogs 81-54. The closest game between these two teams
came back in 2002, as the Lady Bulldogs fell to the Lady Pirates by
one point at 61-60.
Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. in Paul Porter Arena.
