GWU Wrestling Set to Compete at the Davidson Open on Saturday

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb wrestling team is set to compete in the Davidson Open this weekend in the Baker Sports Complex in Davidson, N.C. The competition is set to begin at 9 a.m.
The Porter brothers, as the two both finished in the top-five in
their respective weight classes, highlighted Gardner-Webb's last
open competition, the 2009 N.C. State Open. Redshirt-senior Dustin
Porter went 3-1 at the N.C. State open, losing in the championship
match to take second-place overall at the heavyweight division.
Younger brother Travis, a redshirt-freshman bounced back from a
first-round loss to finish fourth overall in the 197-pound weight
class.
The Bulldogs have not competed since November 21st, a good sign for
Coach Wince and his team, as a number of grapplers used the time to
rest and recover from a handful of injuries.
As in every open meet, it is every man or this case Bulldog for
himself, yet the rest was much needed as the Bulldog wrestlers will
face grapplers from No. 24 Virginia Tech and Southern Conference
foes Appalachian State, The Citadel, Davidson and UNC Greensboro.
Other schools that will be represented include Anderson, Newberry,
UNC Pembroke, Limestone and Campbell.
The Davidson Open will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
Every week throughout the 2009-10 wrestling season, the
Gardner-Webb athletic media relations' office will produce match
notes featuring the upcoming contests and reviewing the previous
matches.
