
Monique Hudson Named the Big South Women's Basketball Player of the Week

Charlotte, N.C. - Gardner-Webb's Monique Hudson has been named the Big South Conference Women's Basketball Choice Hotels Player of the Week, while Mary Hathaway from Winthrop was tabbed The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week, the League announced today.
Hudson, a junior guard from Rocky Mount, N.C., averaged 17.0 points
and shot 43 percent from the floor and 45 percent from downtown to
lead the Lady Bulldogs to a 2-0 record last week, including a win
over then undefeated East Carolina. Hudson got her week started
with 18 points on 83 percent from the floor and 80 percent from
down town and the line as Gardner-Webb downed Wofford on Dec. 1.
She also came up with three boards, dished out two assists and
recorded one block against the Terriers. Four days later against
the Lady Pirates, Hudson stayed hot as she poured in 16 points and
came away with five steals, three boards and one assist in the Lady
Bulldogs' first-ever win over East Carolina. The Lady Pirates
entered the week with a 7-0 record and received 16 votes in the
Coaches Top 25.
Hathaway, a guard from Fort Wayne, Ind., scored a career-high 13
points to push Winthrop to a 62-53 win over USC Aiken on Dec. 5.
She drilled 4-of-5 from the floor to finish with an 80 percent clip
and connected on 3-of-3 from long range and 2-of-2 from the charity
stripe. Hathaway also ripped down a career-best seven boards and
dished out two assists in the win.
Also nominated for women's basketball Player of the Week for Week
4: Ali Schwagmeyer (Charleston Southern), Sydnei Moss (Coastal
Carolina), Devon Brown (Liberty), Denay Wood (Radford), Linda
Aughburns (UNC Asheville) and Shelly Hankins (Winthrop).
Also nominated for women's basketball Freshman of the Week for Week
4: Helen Terry (Charleston Southern) and Jelena Antic
(Liberty).
