Gardner-Webb Men To Host High Point At 2:00 PM Saturday
February 13, 2009 | Men's Basketball
BOILING SPRINGS - Gardner-Webb will host High Point in men's
basketball action Saturday in the first half of a Big South
doubleheader starting at 2 pm ET in Paul Porter Arena.
The Runnin' Bulldogs (11-13, 7-7 Big South) and Panthers (7-17,
3-11 Big South) will square off in a key battle on the hardwood,
which will be televised live on MASN (DirecTV Channel 640).
GWU, which has played four games in a row without leading scorer
and assist man Grayson Flittner (16.5 ppg, 4.5 apg) is currently in
position for the fifth seed in the upcoming Advance Auto Parts Big
South Conference Tournament, and is sitting a full game behind
fourth-place UNC Asheville with four league games to go.
High Point, which GWU topped 60-57 in a tough game on Jan. 10 in
High Point, has moved into much better position of late - by virtue
of a season sweep of Winthrop.
High Point freshman Nick Barbour has topped the 30-point mark twice
in the past two games for the Panthers, and will be a challenge
defensively for Gardner-Webb Saturday afternoon.
GWU freshman Joshua Henley is red-hot on the glass presently,
averaging 14.7 rebounds per game in his last three starts. Just a
week ago, Henley scored a career-high 17 points to go with 15
caroms in a 94-88 loss at VMI.
Doors will open for Saturday's men's game at 1:00 pm ET.
