Lady Netters Win Back-to-Back Against Wofford and Erskine on Valentine's Day Weekend

The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team won back-to-back matches over Valentine's Day weekend, notching wins over Wofford and Erskine to advance to 3-3 on the season.
Gardner-Webb first faced off with Wofford in a re-scheduled match on Friday afternoon at the Reeves Tennis Center. There, the Lady Bulldogs accomplished something they haven't done in a long time, and that was sweep the doubles portion. Gardner-Webb's tandems of Laura Kriett/ Rita Gouveia, Kasey Ellis/Amy Beavers, and Tavenner Black/Jenny Gomez all won their respective doubles matches against the Terriers.
The Lady Bulldogs responded to the doubles win with four more wins in singles action. Gomez won a hard-fought match at No. 2, winning 7-5, 6-1 over the Terriers' Sabrina Smyers. Both Gouveia and Ellis added with convincing wins at No. 4 and 5, Gouveia 2, 0 and Ellis 0, 0.
The final win came at the No. 6 position, as Black won in three sets, 6-3, 5-7, and 1-0 (10-6).
In their next match, which came a day later on Valentine's Day, Gardner-Webb defeated Erskine 6-1. Again, the Lady Bulldogs were able to capture the doubles point by taking two of three over the Flying Fleet. GWU's duo of Black/Gomez won 8-6 at No. 2, followed by an 8-2 win by Beavers/Ellis at No. 3.
In singles action, the Lady Netters were able to win the first five positions to clinch the 6-1 win. Kriett and Beavers both got back to their winning ways as Kriett won her match at No. 1 (6-2, 6-2), followed by Beavers at No. 3 (6-1, 6-2).
Gouveia, Ellis, and Gomez all went 2-0 for the weekend, as all three won in straight sets against the Flying Fleet. Nicole Scates also won in an exhibition match against Erskine's Cera Falls (6-2, 6-2).
