Wrestling Drops 31-18 Decision at Carson-Newman

The Gardner-Webb wrestling team dropped its third match in the
month of February, falling 31-18 to Carson-Newman on Friday
evening.
The Bulldogs started the match by notching two six-point wins at
125 and 141. Red-shirt junior Cortney Roberts won his match at 125
by forfeit and red-shirt senior Chas Franz recorded a pin at the
four-minute mark to keep the Bulldogs out in front.
However, Carson-Newman was not to be out-done as they responded
with back-to-back pins at 149 and 157 to take a six-point
edge.
Gardner-Webb answered back at 165 as red-shirt junior Dave Pelsang
took a close 12-9 decision to pull the ‘Dogs within three.
Again, Carson-Newman won back-to-back matches at 174 and 184 and
widen its gap to 10 with only two matches left.
Red-shirt senior Matthias Piasecki did his best to narrow the gap
by recording a close decision win, 4-1, at 197. Unfortunately, the
Bulldogs were out of reach of a win as they were still down seven
with one match remaining.
In that match, red-shirt junior Dustin Porter fell for only the
fifth time all season, which allowed Carson-Newman the 31-18
victory.
The ‘Dogs won't have much time to recover from Carson-Newman
as they suit up again on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at the Citadel. The
match is currently set for 7 PM.
