Lady Netters Fall, 7-0, to Coastal Carolina in Big South Action

The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team was swept by Coastal Carolina on Saturday afternoon, falling 7-0 to the Chanticleers at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center. The Bulldogs' only win came in the doubles portion as the duo of Tavenner Black and Jenny Gomez routed their opponents 8-0 at the second position.
The Bulldogs fell behind early as the Chanticleers were able to take two of three in doubles competition. Singles didn't prove to fare any better as Coastal won all six individual matchups.
Gomez won her first set at the No. 2 singles position 6-3, but Coastal's Tina Petkova rebounded in the second with a 6-3 win of her own. The match was eventually decided in a tiebreaker set with Petkova edging out Gomez 11-9.
Fellow senior Amy Beavers also went three sets on Saturday. She also won the first set of her match, 6-4, over the Chanticleers' Kim Webb. However, Webb rallied in the second for a 6-1 win and kept up the momentum in the tiebreaker set for a 10-4 victory.
The Bulldogs will take a few days off to recover before traveling to Elon on Wednesday, Feb. 25 for a 2 PM showdown.
