BOILING SPRINGS Gardner-Webb's first venture into the
ESPNU BracketBusters will see the Runnin' Bulldogs hit the road to
play at James Madison of the Colonial Athletic Association.
The game will be played on Saturday, February 21, in Harrisonburg,
Va., with the official game time to be determined.
The Dukes (14-9, 6-5 CAA) and Runnin' Bulldogs (10-11, 6-5 Big
South) have met just once before on the hardwood, with James
Madison capturing a 85-67 win in Harrisonburg on November 24, 2001
Gardner-Webb's final season of transition to NCAA Division
I.
"We are looking forward to representing Gardner-Webb University and
the Big South Conference in this year's BracketBusters," said GWU
head coach Rick Scruggs. "The event has been great for mid-major
basketball, and will continue to allow great basketball to be
showcased around the country."
GWU and JMU have a pair of common opponents this season. Each lost
nail biters to NCAA independent Longwood on the road, and each has
beaten Radford on the road. GWU is coming off a home loss to
Radford, which saw the Dogs play without leading scorer and
assist man Grayson Flittner.
The Big South's other BracketBuster games will see Liberty travel
to Old Dominion and Winthrop host Appalachian State.
