Women's Tennis Records Third Straight Sweep, Defeats WSSU 7-0

The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team recorded its third straight sweep on Tuesday morning, defeating the Winston-Salem State Rams, 7-0, at the WSSU Tennis Complex. The win moves the Lady Netters one game closer to .500 at 6-7, while the Rams fall to 1-12 on the year.
Gardner-Webb only dropped one game in doubles competition to take an early 1-0 lead over WSSU. The Lady Bulldog team of Laura Kreitt and Rita Gouveia won 8-0 at one, followed by another 8-0 win at three from Amy Beavers and Kasey Ellis. Jenny Gomez and Tavenner Black only gave up one game to the Rams, taking their match 8-1 at two.
The Lady Netters almost whitewashed the Rams in singles as well, but WSSU's Gabrielle Benjamin was able to notch one game against Beavers at the fourth position. The rest of the Bulldogs swept their WSSU counterparts, 6-0, 6-0 at the other five positions to complete the 7-0 romping.
The entire match was completed in less than an hour, giving the Bulldogs plenty of time to rest before their 1 p.m. matchup with North Carolina A&T later today (Tuesday).
