Women's Tennis Falls, 4-3, at Radford

The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team dropped its third conference match Sunday evening, falling to the Radford Highlanders, 4-3, at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. Gardner-Webb falls to 0-3 in Big South action, while Radford improves to 1-1 in the conference.
The Lady Bulldogs split the singles portion with the Highlanders, 3-3, but Radford was able to win two of the three doubles matches which gave them the 4-3 edge.
Senior Amy Beavers and partner Kasey Ellis won at the third doubles position, 8-7 (7-2) over the Highlander, but Radford had already won at the first position, 8-3, over GWU's Laura Kriett and Rita Gouveia. The deciding match was played at two, with the Highlanders' duo of Mia Drobnjak and Ally Spector notching an 8-6 win over the Bulldog pairing of Tavenner Black and Jenny Gomez.
Although the Gardner-Webb lost the doubles point, the Lady Bulldogs made a run of it in singles action, winning the fourth, fifth, and sixth position matches. Beavers won a close match at four, 6-4, 6-4, along with Ellis at five with a 7-5, 6-1 victory. Black finished the streak with a three-set victory, 6-1, 3-6, 10-8, at the sixth and final position.
However, the Radford women were able to clinch the first thru third slots to tie the Bulldogs in singles wins, which gave them one more point and the overall win.
The Lady Bulldogs will return home and continue conference action with UNC Asheville on Wednesday, March 18 at 2:30 pm.
