Bulldogs Drop Non-Conference Match at Charlotte, 5-2

The Gardner-Webb men's tennis team was unable to rebound from
its early loss in doubles as the Charlotte 49ers won on their home
surface, 5-2, over the Bulldogs at Charlotte's Tennis
Facility.
For the second consecutive match, Gardner-Webb's number one pairing
of Evgeny Slesarev and Rafael Altmayer won a close match in the
doubles portion, defeating Charlotte's duo 9-7. However, the
Bulldogs' second and third pairing have fallen in the past two
matches, this time falling 8-4, 8-5 to Charlotte.
Although many of the matches were close, the Bulldogs were unable
to respond with a slew of singles points this time, as the 49ers
took four of six for the 5-2 victory.
Slesarev and Altmayer were the two ‘Dogs to pick up singles
wins. Slesarev defeated his opponent, 6-2, 6-4 at one, followed by
a 7-6, 6-1 win by Altmayer at three.
Sophomore Andrew Veeder fought hard in his match at two, but
Charlotte's Michael Anders was able to win the third set tiebreaker
for the 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 win. Fellow sophomore Jamie Lawlor also had
a close match at five, falling 7-5, 7-5.
The Bulldogs won't have much time between matches this weekend as
Liberty comes to town on Sunday, March 22 for a 1 PM conference
showdown.
