
Meyer's Top-10 Finish Leads Bulldogs to Fifth-Place Showing in Winthrop Intercollegiate

Rock Hill, S.C. Gardner-Webb sophomore Courtney Meyer turned in a three-day score of 236, +20, to lead the Bulldogs to an overall fifth-place team finish in the Winthrop University Intercollegiate in Rock Hill, S.C. this weekend.
The Bulldogs turned in a combined three-round team score of 979, finishing 20 strokes ahead of the sixth-place finisher High Point University.
Meyer carded rounds of 83, 78 and 75 over the three-day tournament, giving her a combined tournament score of 236, +20, which was good enough to place her in a tie for eighth-place overall. The sophomore carded low rounds for the Bulldogs on all three days of competition.
Senior Yayoi Garcia turned in rounds of 88, 79 and 79 to finish the tournament with a combined score of 246, +30, which placed her in a tie for 22nd overall.
Fellow senior and Rock Hill local Katie Garahan carded a combined score of 252, +36, which placed her in a tie at 35th-place overall. Fellow classmate Dana Prozeller also turned in a three-round score of 252, +36, placing her in a tie for 35th-place as well.
Rounding out the scoring for the Bulldogs was senior Mackenzie Renner, who shot a 256, +40, for the three-day event.
Yale University outlasted host Winthrop University on day three, winning in a playoff to take first-place overall with a score of 939, +75. Winthrop finished second (939), while Oral Roberts University (941) and the University of Minnesota (951) finished third and fourth, respectively.
With their fifth-place finish, the Bulldogs finished ahead of High Point, St. John's University, USC Upstate, Presbyterian College and three other NCAA Division I institutions.
The Gardner-Webb women's golf team will return to the links on March 30-31, as the Bulldogs will participate in the Larry Nelson Intercollegiate in Kennesaw, Georgia.
