Lady Bulldogs Sweep Double-Header on Saturday

The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team improved its record to 5-7 on the year by notching two 7-0 wins over Pfeiffer and Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday afternoon at the Webb Tennis Complex.
For just the second and third times this season, the Lady Netters opened their matches by sweeping the doubles portion. The Ladies only gave up two games in doubles against Pfeiffer, winning 8-0, 8-1, 8-1, and only one game against Lenoir-Rhyne, winning 8-0, 8-1, 8-0.
Gardner-Webb was able to sweep both portions of singles competition as well. In the Lady Bulldogs' match against Pfeiffer, four of the six singles matches were won 6-0, 6-0. Those four came between the second and fifth positions. Senior Jenny Gomez won at two, followed by Rita Gouveia at three, followed by Amy Beavers at four, and finishing with Kasey Ellis at five.
Junior Laura Kreitt won her bout against the Falcons, 6-0, 6-3, followed by Tavenner Black with a 6-0, 6-1 win at six.
The Bulldogs repeated against Lenoir-Rhyne, but this time were only able to notch two 6-0, 6-0 wins; those wins coming from Gouveia and Beavers at three and four. Kreitt won again in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. Gomez nearly completed another 6-0, 6-0 win, but gave up a game in the first set to win 6-1, 6-0. Ellis won at five by a 6-1, 6-2 count, followed by Black at six with a 6-0, 6-1 win.
The Lady Bulldogs will get a couple days rest before hitting road on Tuesday for a double-header against Winston-Salem St. and N.C. A&T. The Winston-Salem St. match is scheduled to begin at 9:30 am, followed by N.C. A&T at 1:00 pm.
