GWU Women's Golf Falls Two Places to Fifth Overall After Day Two of Big South Championships

Ninety Six, S.C. – On a damp and cloudy day that saw rain fall off and on during play, the Gardner-Webb women's golf team carded a combined team score of 324, +36, two strokes higher than in the first round on Monday, dropping the Bulldogs to fifth-place overall with a two-round combined score of 646, +70, heading into the final day of play on Wednesday.
Leading the way for the Bulldogs on Tuesday was senior Mackenzie
Renner, as she carded a GWU low round of 79, +7, a whole 11 strokes
better than on Monday at day one of the Big South Championships.
Renner's rounds of 90 and 79 place her in a tie for 29th-place
overall with her combined two-day score of 169, +25.
Senior Yayoi Garcia, who carded an 80, +8, on Tuesday, finds
herself in a tie at 13th-place with a score of 160, +16, heading
into play on Wednesday.
Fellow senior Dana Prozeller, who carded a round of 79, +7, on
Monday, shot an 82, +10, on day two, to move into a tie at
15th-place with a score of 161, +17, after two days of play.
Sophomore Courtney Meyer and senior Katie Garahan both turned in a
second round score of 83, +11, on Tuesday. With her second round
83, Meyer sits in 18th-place overall with a two-round combined
score of 162, +18, while Garahan's two-day combined score of 167,
+23, has her heading into the final day of play in a tie at
25th-place.
The Bulldogs, who were the only team to shoot higher on Tuesday
than on day one yesterday, fell out of a three-way tie for
third-place, dropping two-places to fifth-place overall.
Coastal Carolina turned in a low team round of 296, +8, on Tuesday
to increase its lead to 10 strokes over second-place Charleston
Southern. Winthrop, who has a two-day team score of 625, +49, is
in third-place, while Radford fell from second to fourth-place with
a score of 629, +53, after two rounds.
The third and final day of the 2009 Big South Women's Championship
tournament will tee off at 8 a.m. on Wednesday morning at The
Patriot Club in Ninety Six, S.C.
