
Lady Bulldogs Drop 4-0 Decision in First Round of Big South Tennis Championship

The No. 7 seeded Gardner-Webb women's tennis team was unable to claim an upset victory as they fell, 4-0, to the second-seeded Liberty Flames on the opening day of the 2009 Big South Women's Tennis Championship at the Memorial Courts on the campus of Winthrop University.
The Lady Bulldogs had a rough start to their match against the Flames, dropping the doubles point behind losses at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.
In singles action, Liberty won at the third, fourth, and fifth flights to clinch the match 4-0. Red-shirt sophomore Kasey Ellis fought hard at five, but dropped a heartbreaking second set, 7-5 for the last point.
Three matches went unfinished with Laura Kriett, Rita Gouveia, and Tavenner Black still playing at one, two, and six. All three were down a set when the match was called.
The Lady Bulldogs end the season with a 10-14 mark.
