Bulldogs Track and Field Competes at Jesse Owens Track Classic

Columbus, Ohio – The Gardner-Webb outdoor track and field teams continued its 2009 season this weekend, as the Bulldogs competed in the Jesse Owens Track Classic hosted by Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
On the women's side, the Bulldogs had five student-athletes compete over the two-day event, with three of those performers turning in a top-15 finish, all in the javelin throw. Senior Sarah Wyszynski took eighth-place in the javelin throw with a toss of 38.01 meters. Freshman Ann Marie Howell finished 13th in the event with a throw of 36.26 meters, while fellow classmate Caroline Arledge took 15th overall with a throw of 35.05 meters.
Senior Beth Long finished 32nd overall in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:19.11, while freshman Holly Scott finished 35th in the 5000 meter run with her time of 18:52.85.
On the men's side, senior Jake Didion finished eighth in the triple jump event with a distance of 14.62 meters, while sophomore Johnathan Rucker took 20th in the 110 meter hurdles event with a time of 15.27.
Redshirt-freshman Christoph Hutschalik finished in 26th-place overall in the hammer throw, turning in a throw of 52.23 meters, while freshman Nick Kelly finished 28th in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:02.47.
The Gardner-Webb track and field teams will return to action next weekend, May 9-10, to compete at the Orange and Purple Classic in Clemson, S.C.
