High Point, N.C. – Gardner-Webb student-athletes Kelly Bridges, Diana Palka, Mike McPherson, Evan Brusich and Charlie Steinke all traveled to High Point, N.C. this weekend to compete in the 2009 High Point University – Vertklasse Meeting.

Bridges led the Bulldogs at the meet, taking third-place overall in the women's pole vault challenge, as the senior finished third overall with a height of 3.65 meters. Bridges was just behind the first and second-place finishers who both cleared the bar at 3.85 meters.

GWU's Palka picked up fourth in the 3000 meter steeplechase event on Saturday, crossing the finish line with a time of 12:19.21.

On the men's side, McPherson took second-place in the men's shot put event with a throw of 13.88 meters, while Brusich finished in seventh-place overall with a time of 15.35 in the men's 110 meter hurdles.

Redshirt-junior Charlie Steinke finished in 12th-place in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:56.55.

The participating schools included, Bryan, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Gardner-Webb, Guilford, High Point, Livingstone, Queens (N.C.), Radford, U.S. Navy, Virginia Tech, and Winthrop.
