Bulldogs Set For 2009 Big South Softball Championship (May 7-9)

Boiling Springs, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb softball team will make history on Thursday, May 7, as the Bulldogs will compete in its first ever Big South Softball Championship. The Bulldogs, who enter the tournament as the No. 5 seed, will take on the No. 4 seeded Charleston Southern Lady Buccaneers in the first game of the conference tournament.
Coach Cole's squad finished its first season as Big South members
6-12 in conference play and 17-25 overall. Charleston Southern
went 7-11 in conference play and 24-31 overall in 2009, as the Lady
Buccaneers took two out of three games from the Bulldogs during the
regular season.
In the team's three-game series back on April 17-18, the Bulldogs
won game one 4-1, as junior Christine Murray threw a complete game
for the win. However, Charleston Southern bounced back to take
game two 4-7 and then won game three on Saturday, April 18 by a
score of 4-3.
The Bulldogs were 5-10 during the regular season versus the Big
South Softball Championship tournament field and will look to make
a splash in its inaugural BSC Softball Championship event.
Depending on how the Bulldogs due in its opener on Thursday, May 7,
at 10 a.m., the rest of the tournament schedule is laid out. If
the Bulldogs win in its opener against Charleston Southern, then
Gardner-Webb will take on the No. 1 seeded and host Radford
Highlanders at 3 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.
If the Bulldogs were to lose on Thursday morning to the Lady
Buccaneers, then GWU will not play until Friday, May 8, at 10
a.m.
