
Fullwood Named to the 2009 North Carolina All-State University Division Softball Team

Durham, N.C. GWU junior first baseman Christa Fullwood was named to the 2009 North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) University Division All-State Softball Team released Thursday.
Eleven student-athletes, representing eight different schools,
comprise the 2009 team.
Fullwood, who was one of four infielders named to the team, was
named to the Big South all-conference first team and to the Big
South Championship all-tournament team this season. She was ninth
overall in the country and second in the conference with a .460
batting average, 22nd in the nation overall and second in the Big
South with a .519 on base percentage, and 45th in the nation and
third in the conference with a .719 slugging percentage. Fullwood
was also fourth in the conference in both hits with 64 and in RBI
with 36.
The sixth-annual team consists of NCAA Division I student-athletes
from North Carolina colleges and universities. North Carolina
sports information professionals submitted the nominees and NCCSIA
members voted for the all-state team, which consists of two
pitchers, one catcher, four infielders, three outfielders and one
designated player.
The Charlotte 49ers led the way with three student-athletes on the
team, followed by Atlantic Sun Conference champion and NCAA
regional playoff participant Campbell University with a pair of
honorees. Appalachian State University, East Carolina University,
Gardner-Webb University, North Carolina A&T State University,
UNC Wilmington and Western Carolina University filled out the 2009
all-state squad with one representative each.
Founded in 2002, NCCSIA is comprised of sports information
professionals from North Carolina's NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA
and independent institutions for the purpose of promoting college
athletics in the state. Membership is open to anyone affiliated
with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina
whose responsibilities include sports information.
NCCSIA selects all-state teams in the university (NCAA Division I)
and college (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for women's
volleyball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer,
softball and baseball. More than 500 student-athletes have been
recognized on all-state teams since 2003.
