
Women's Swimming Signs 12 For Incoming Class

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb University Athletics Department along with the women's swimming head coach Mike Simpson are excited to announce its 2009-2010 recruiting class. The incoming class of 12 will continue to improve the depth of the current squad, and will be relied upon to make an immediate impact at the CCSA conference championships.
Joining the Bulldogs in 2009-10 will be:
• Elizabeth Charter from Lilburn, GA where she swims for
Swim Atlanta and Parkview High School. She was All-County and
All-State in the 100 fly, 50 free, 200 Medley Relay, and 400 Free
Relay. She is a High School All-American in the 100 fly and 200
Medley Relay. She is also an Academic Fellows Scholarship
Recipient.
• Katherine Glenn from Hickory, NC where she was
homeschooled and swims for YMCA Seahorse Swim Team. She is a YMCA
National finalist, Sectional qualifier, and a high school state
finalist.
• Taylor Jones from Mooresville, NC where she swims for
SwimMAC Carolina and Lake Norman High School. She is a high school
state finalist, captain of her high school team, and an
all-conference performer. She also received the team's Wildcat
Award for her positive attitude and work ethic.
• Kristen Michal from Katy, TX where she swims for First
Colony Swim Team and James E. Taylor High School. In high school,
she is a Scholastic All-American and received the Most Improved
Swimmer and Coach's Award.
• Michelle Palacio from Charlotte, NC where she was
homeschooled and swims for SwimMAC Carolina. She is a Presidential
Fellows scholarship recipient, Vespanen Leadership Award Recipient,
and also a Sectional qualifier.
• Lindsay Treece, a transfer from Washington and Jefferson
College. She is from Charlotte, NC where she swims for SwimMAC
Carolina. She finished 3rd at the Presidential Athletic Conference
Championships last year in the 400 IM.
• Elizabeth VanHalsema from Charlotte, NC where she swims
for SwimMAC Carolina and Providence Senior High. She is a Senior
Sectional qualifier and a part of three high school state
championship teams.
• Maggie Vivero from Houston, TX where she swims for the
First Colony Swim Team and Elkins High School. Maggie was named to
the All-District team in high school.
• Jenna Voelkert, a transfer from Clemson University. She
is from Lenoir City, TN where she swims for Pilot Aquatics Club of
Knoxville. In high school, she was an Academic All-American, state
finalist, and recipient of her school's Warrior Award for most
outstanding female athlete.
• Stephanie Wild from Brentwood, TN where she swims for
Nashville Aquatic Club and Brentwood High School. She was a high
school state finalist and also a Southeastern qualifier.
• Kathleen Wilkinson from Fredericksburg, VA where she
swims for Stingrays Swim Team and Massaponax High School. She is a
3-time high school state finalist and also a YMCA National
qualifier.
• Kim Zachensky from Marietta, GA where she swims for the
Marietta Marlins and Sprayberry High School. Kim is a World Trials
qualifier in the 100 breast, a member of 2 Junior National relays,
and also a finalist at Sectionals and Senior State in the
breaststroke events.
The Lady Bulldogs finished fourth at the Coastal Collegiate
Swimming Association Championships last season and will look to
continue to make a splash in both the pool and in the classroom in
2009-10.
