September 18, 2009 | Women's Soccer
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.- The dismal weather Friday afternoon in Boiling Springs did little to slow down the Gardner-Webb women's soccer team as sophomore Megan Reimer found the back of the net twice to lead the Lady Bulldogs to a 2-1 victory over the Appalachian State Mountaineers at Greene-Harbison Field.
Appalachian State (3-4-0) was able to strike first when sophomore Sydney Hill took a shot in the 28th minute of play that got past GWU freshman goalkeeper Samantha Rupert after it deflected off of a GWU defender.
The Lady Bulldogs (5-4-0) were able to answer back in the 69th minute when Reimer blasted a shot from 25 yards out past Mountaineer junior goalkeeper Caroline Clark when the ball deflected off of the left goal post. Junior Sarah Keyser assisted the goal by Reimer.
Reimer was able to score the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute when she was able to get to the ball after Clarke stopped a shot by sophomore Stephanie Benshoof. The goal was Reimer's seventh on the season, which is currently the most goals scored by any member of a Big South Conference team this season.
The Lady Bulldogs will return to action on Friday, September 25th when they travel to Dayton, Ohio to take on Wright State. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM.
