Goods Earns Second Big South Conference Freshman Of The Week Honor

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Gardner-Webb defensive tackle Matt Goods was named Big South Conference Freshman of the Week Monday morning by the league office, marking the second time Goods has earned the honor in three weeks.

Goods (East Orange, N.J. / Milford (NY) Academy) made his presence felt on a pair of sacks at NC State on Saturday - one solo and one assist - and was credited with three total tackles in the game.

The 6-foot-2, 285-pounder has made 12 total tackles so far this season, and leads the Big South in sacks (3.5) and tackles for loss (6.0) through three games this season. He also has four quarterback pressures in three games played.

Goods leads the nation's freshman in the Football Championship Subdivision in sacks, and is ranked No. 8 nationally in sacks per game on the FCS level. He ranks No. 19 nationally in tackles for loss per game, and has helped Gardner-Webb's defense rank No. 14 nationally against the run (70.0 ypg) and No. 2 nationally in turnover margin (+3.0 per game).

Gardner-Webb (2-1) will now enjoy an open weekend on its schedule, before returning to action on Saturday, October 3, with a conference game at VMI in Lexington, Va.
