Men's Soccer To Host High Point and Winthrop On the Pitch This Week
September 29, 2009 | Men's Soccer
Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb is coming off back-to-back Big South Conference road wins from last week and will look to continued its host start in conference play with home games against High Point and Winthrop at Greene-Harbison Field this week.
After a 12-day break in which the Bulldogs had two matches
cancelled due to the heavy rainfall in the state of Georgia, Coach
Setzer's squad responded well with back-to-back shutout victories
over Presbyterian College and Radford.
However, the Bulldogs, who are 5-1 thus far this season, will have
a tough challenge ahead this week, as Gardner-Webb will host High
Point and Winthrop in conference play this week.
On Wednesday night, the Bulldogs welcome the High Point Panthers to
Boiling Springs for a Big South Conference showdown with the
kick-off slated for 7 p.m.
Gardner-Webb is winless against the Panthers, posting a 0-3-2
record all-time dating back to the teams' first ever meeting in
1987. Last season at High Point, the Panthers blanked the Bulldogs
1-0.
This season High Point is 4-3 overall and will be opening up its
Big South Conference slate against the Bulldogs on Wednesday
night.
On Saturday night, Gardner-Webb will host the Eagles of Winthrop
University in Big South play at 5 p.m.
GWU has not faired well against Winthrop historically, as the
Bulldogs are 1-10-0 all-time versus the Eagles dating back to the
teams' first ever match in 1990. Winthrop is currently on a
three-match winning streak over the Bulldogs, as GWU defeated
Winthrop 3-0 in Rock Hill, S.C. in 2005.
Every week throughout the 2009 men's soccer season, the
Gardner-Webb athletic media relations' office will produce game
notes featuring the upcoming contests and reviewing the previous
matches.
