GWU Cross Country Has Ten Place in Top-10 At Western Carolina University Open

Cullowhee, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb men's and women's cross country teams had 10 individuals place in the top-10 overall, as the women finished third overall and the men took fourth at the Western Carolina University Open on Friday night.
The Gardner-Webb women's team, who finished in third with 51 total
points, was led by junior Diana Polk and senior Abby Callahan, as
the two finished fifth and sixth, respectively, with times of
12:13.93 and 12:16.62.
Also finishing in the top-10 for the Lady Bulldogs was freshman
Ariel Zimmerman, who crossed the finish line in eighth with a time
of 12:18.87, and junior Laura Scott who finished in ninth with her
time of 12:19.49.
Sophomore Cherish Richardson took 26th-place overall with a time of
13:37.23 on Friday night, while junior Lia Hudak crossed the finish
line with a time of 13:50.62, placing her in 30th overall.
Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Bulldogs were sophomores
Elisabeth Sawyer and Holly Scott, who finished in 32nd and
33rd-places with times of 14:08.67 and 14:42.54.
For the men's meet, the Bulldogs, who finished in fourth-place with
78 points, were led by sophomore Nick Kelly, who finished ninth
overall with his time of 16:32.52, and freshman Josiah
Stanton-Brooks who finished right on his heels in 10th with a time
of 16:35.52.
Fellow GWU freshman Colby Witt turned in a time of 16:53.54 to
finish in 15th-place overall, while junior Jason Wenzel crossed the
finish line in 22nd with his time of 17:49.10. Sophomore Jacob
Holye finished in 28th-place with a time of 18:33.49.
Gardner-Webb's Justin Cole and Josh Padgett rounded out the scoring
for the Bulldogs on Friday night, as Cole finished 30th with a time
of 21:03.53 and Padgett finished 31st with his time of
23:40.86.
Both of the Gardner-Webb cross country teams will return to action
on September 18th, as Coach Baker's squad will compete in either
the Adidas Wolfpack Invitational in Cary, N.C. or at the Big South
Conference Preview Meet in High Point, N.C.
