September 08, 2009 | Women's Soccer
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.- The Gardner-Webb women's soccer team continues its hot streak as the Lady Bulldogs defeated Campbell by a score of 2-1 with sophomore Megan Reimer scoring both of the goals for the 'Dogs at Greene-Harbison Field Monday night.
The Lady Bulldogs (3-3-0) were able to score within the sixth minute of the match when Reimer was able to find the back of the net from a crossing pass from sophomore Megan Tremblay after a free kick.
Campbell (2-3-0) fought back late in the first half with junior Kaili Terry putting a shot past GWU freshman goalkeeper Samantha Rupert to even the score. The match was very physical, with several yellow cards being handed out to players on both teams, including a double yellow card on Campbell freshman Jeannie Borda, which caused the Fighting Camels to have to play shorthanded for the entire second half.
Right after Borda's ejection, Reimer was able to score again when sophomore Stephanie Benshoof sent a free kick to the open Reimer. The two goals tonight give Reimer a total of five goals on the season, with all five coming in the last three games, in which the Lady Bulldogs were victorious. Reimer stated after the game that the team has been working a lot better together, which has led to the improved offensive output by the squad over the last few matches.
Gardner-Webb Head Coach Kevin Mounce was pleased with the result of tonight's match and had this statement at the conclusion of the match: "I am very pleased with the effort the team gave tonight. We were able to strike early with Reimer's goal, and played a very physical match with what is a very good team in Campbell. Coach (Todd) Clark always has a good team, and it was evident in the team's performance tonight. Overall, I am pleased with the recent three game win streak this past week, which shows that each week in the season is different, and hope to get two more wins this weekend."
The Lady Bulldogs return to action this Friday evening as they host the UT-Chattanooga Lady Mocs. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm, and is part of the Border Classic, hosted by Gardner-Webb and Under Armour.
