GWU Women's Golf Takes 11th Overall at 2010 Lady Pirate Intercollegiate

Greenville, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's golf team wrapped up its 2010 fall season on Tuesday afternoon, picking up an 11th-place team finish at the 2010 Lady Pirate Intercollegiate hosted by East Carolina University at the Greenville Country Club in Greenville, N.C.
The Runnin' Bulldogs were consistent throughout the two-day event, carding team rounds of 303, 304 and 306 to finish the tournament with a three-round combined score of 913, +61, finishing one stroke behind the tenth-place Old Dominion Monarchs.
Sophomore Hannah Hellyer paced the Runnin' Bulldogs with a three-round combined score of 222, +9, including shooting a first round 69, 2 under par, on Monday morning, to finish in a tie for 13th-place overall.
Gardner-Webb senior Courtney Meyer carded rounds of 78, 76 and 75 to finish the tournament with a 229, +16, to place in a tie for 35th-place overall, while sophomore Sammy Vass turned in a three-round combined score of 230, +17, to finished the two-day event in a tie at 37th-place overall.
Fellow sophomore Lauren Smith carded rounds of 77, 78 and 78 to finish in a tie for 54th-place overall with a combined score of 233, +20, while sophomore Meghan Allum finished tied for 70th overall with a score of 238, +25, to round out the scoring for GWU.
Freshman Pilar Morgan, who played as an individual for the event, shot a combined two-day score of 234, +21, to place in a tie for 62nd-place overall.
The University of Maryland Terrapins took first-place overall with a combined team score of 876, +24, finishing ahead of host East Carolina who took second with a score of 881, +29, and Augusta State who finished in third-place overall with a team score of 887, +35.
The GWU women's golf team will take the winter off and will return to the links in March, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will tee off its 2011 spring season on March 20-21 at the Low Country Intercollegiate in Charleston, S.C.
